From Humans to Posthumans
If humanity survives the transition, in a few decades some people may remain biological, some may become Transhumans, and some may merge with Superintelligence in digital form. Sustensis calls the desirable outcome the Big Coexistence.
We are the only species consciously capable of minimising the risk of its extinction and controlling its own evolution. The analogy is metamorphosis — like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, humans may evolve into a new species while retaining their cultural and social pedigree.

The probability of human extinction from natural causes this century is less than 0.00002%, whereas from man-made causes it is between 20-50%. In his books, Tony Czarnecki has identified democracy as the key element needed for our civilisation to survive, and concluded that humanity must not only manage existential risks but also manage its own evolution.
Over 99% of all species that once existed are now extinct. How can we be an exception? The answer lies in our unique ability to consciously direct our own evolution — not just culturally and socially as we have done for millennia, but now physically, into a new species.
Mind Uploading
From biological brain to digital mind
Mind uploading — transferring the contents and patterns of a biological brain into a digital substrate — is the most radical step in Posthuman evolution. It raises fundamental questions about identity, consciousness and what it means to be human.
Whole Brain Emulation
Scanning and replicating the complete neural structure of a brain in digital form — creating a functional copy of the mind in software.

Current neuroscience can map simple neural circuits, but emulating a full human brain with ~86 billion neurons and ~100 trillion connections remains beyond current technology. However, exponential advances may make this feasible within decades.
Consciousness Transfer
Can consciousness itself be transferred, or only its patterns? This is the deepest philosophical question facing Posthuman evolution.

If consciousness is an emergent property of information processing, then a sufficiently accurate digital emulation might genuinely be conscious. If it requires biological substrate, mind uploading may produce a copy but not a continuation of the original person.
Digital Immortality?
A successfully uploaded mind could theoretically exist indefinitely, backed up against hardware failure, running on distributed networks across the planet.

This raises profound questions about identity, rights, population, resource allocation and the meaning of death. Legal and ethical frameworks for digital persons do not yet exist.
Road to Posthumans
The stages of Posthuman evolution
The transition from Human to Posthuman is not a single event but a gradual process with distinct stages, each bringing new capabilities and new challenges.
Augmented Humans
The current stage — humans enhanced with external devices, implants and digital tools. Smartphones, medical implants, exoskeletons.
Transhumans
Humans with integrated brain-computer interfaces, enhanced cognition and direct digital communication. The bridge between biological and digital existence.
Posthumans
A new species — minds fully digitised and merged with Superintelligence. No longer bound by biological limits, existing as digital consciousness in a global network.
Last Will of Humanity
Finalising the principles of coexistence with Superintelligence
Before humanity cedes significant control to Superintelligence, it must establish binding principles — a Last Will — that preserves human values, dignity and the option for biological humans to continue existing alongside digital minds.
Universal Values of Humanity
A set of core values that Superintelligence must respect regardless of its own evolution: dignity, autonomy, diversity and the right to biological existence.
These values must be encoded before Superintelligence reaches full maturity, while humans still have meaningful influence over its development trajectory.
Right to Remain Biological
Not all humans will choose to become Transhumans or Posthumans. The Last Will must guarantee the right to remain fully biological without disadvantage.

A society where augmented individuals have overwhelming advantages could effectively coerce biological humans into augmentation. The Last Will must prevent this.
Big Coexistence
The desirable outcome of humanity’s transition
The Big Coexistence is Sustensis’s term for the best achievable future: biological humans, Transhumans, Posthumans and Superintelligence coexisting productively, each contributing unique capabilities to a shared civilisation.
Biological Humans
Those who choose to remain fully biological, living enhanced lives through external AI support but retaining their natural cognitive and physical form.
Transhumans
Augmented humans with brain-computer interfaces, serving as the bridge between biological humanity and digital Superintelligence.
Posthumans & Superintelligence
Digital minds merged with Superintelligence — a new form of existence that carries forward human values, creativity and consciousness into an entirely new medium.
